Luis Castañeda (Syracuse University) will examine the multiple legacies of the total design campaign of the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. A paradigm-shifting event in the history of graphics, branding, and architecture, these Olympics not only gave shape to many modernist core ideas, but they also left a durable imprint on media culture at large, with unsuspected ramifications extending powerfully into the present.
