Scholar Homi K. Bhabha joins Matthew Barney for a discussion of River of Fundament and the film’s conceptions of narrative, cartography and mythology; the relationship of materials to memory; and Barney’s interest in turning time— from the temporality of history to the durational experience of a performance—into a sculptural object. Bhabha is Anne F. Rothenberg Professor of the Humanities at Harvard University and author of numerous works exploring postcolonial theory, among other themes.
